Pine martens are a native woodland carnivore that can play an important role in healthy, well-connected landscapes. Cornwall has extensive areas of suitable habitat - and with the right, practical groundwork we can help build a clearer picture of pine marten presence and support long-term recovery.
Our Pine Marten Project is focused on evidence-led conservation delivered in partnership with local landowners. A core part of this is funding, installing, and monitoring pine marten den boxes across suitable landscapes in Cornwall, supported by non-invasive camera trapping.
Your donation will help us to:
Purchase, install, and maintain pine marten den boxes in suitable woodland and connected habitats
Use camera traps to monitor den box use and record pine marten activity, building a reliable evidence base
Work with landowners to identify suitable locations, secure permissions, and support long-term stewardship
Gather robust ecological data that supports responsible, landscape-scale conservation planning
Create and share digital content that inspires, educates, entertains, and engages - building public support for pine marten conservation in Cornwall
Pine martens are strongly associated with healthier woodland ecosystems and well-connected habitat networks. Their presence can act as an indicator of landscapes that support a wide range of wildlife.
As adaptable predators, pine martens can also contribute to more balanced wildlife communities and are increasingly recognised for their potential to help limit invasive grey squirrel impacts in some settings - which can benefit native woodland birds and trees.
Thank you for supporting Kernow Conservation - every donation, whatever the size, makes a genuine difference to what we can deliver on the ground and share with communities across Cornwall.
